Snow & Travel Tips
The North Mankato Police Department would like to remind drivers to please slow down and drive according to road conditions. Please remember these snow and travel tips during inclement weather, and stay safe out there!
❄️ Check 511mn.org or call 511 for road condition information. Know before you go!
❄️ If you must travel during a snow storm, allow plenty of extra time for your trip.
❄️ If a city road appears to not be passable, please turn around and report it to the city or local authorities.
❄️ Please keep a safe distance between vehicles, especially plow trucks. If you cannot see their mirrors, they cannot see you!
❄️ If possible, put reflective sticks along your curb line. This helps us identify the width of the road to allow for wider plowing of your street.
❄️ If possible, please park cars in driveways off the street. This helps us plow the road as wide as possible to allow for safer travel.
❄️ Ensure your tires are properly inflated and have adequate tread.
❄️ Make sure your fuel tank is at least half full at all times.
❄️ Keep a "Winter Survival Kit" in your car that includes:
- Extra winter clothes and blankets
- Bottled water and snacks
- Flashlight and spare batteries
- Cell phone charger
- Booster cables
- Shovel and basic tools
- Sand or cat litter
- Red bandana
- Pencil and paper
