All new firefighters complete the NFPA 1001 fire program prior to starting their probationary period. This training is over 120 hours of classroom and hands on training that cover everything from fire behavior, auto extrication, ladders and suppression.
After the initial training, firefighters on the North Mankato Fire Department train twice a month. Topics include: CPR, HAZMAT, Driving, Search & Rescue, Building Construction, Pump Operations, and other topics.
In addition to our in-house training, firefighters attend fire school at South Central College and other colleges throughout the state for various leadership and advanced classes.
