Emergency Management

Preparedness is one of the four phases of Emergency Management and preparedness is the one that every citizen can actively participate in to be ready to deal with a variety of emergencies and/or disasters. The other three phases are:
  1. Reponses
  2. Recovery
  3. Mitigation

Many web sites are available to help citizens prepare for emergencies. A good web site to start with in preparing is: Ready.gov

A few more web sites that may help with planning are:

Sirens

Sirens in North Mankato have been strategically located so as to provide as much overlap in sound coverage as possible. Sirens, however, are primarily designed for outdoor notification. Therefore, Emergency Management highly recommends that all persons purchase additional notification devices such as weather radios, severe weather pagers, scanners, portable radios, etc.

North Mankato sirens have three sound functions which are:

  1. Steady Tone = Severe Weather
  2. Wail = Nuclear Attack
  3. Voice = Information and/or Instructions

CodeRED

Nicollet County Emergency Management and the Nicollet County Sheriff’s Office has contracted with Emergency Communications Network to license its CodeRED high-speed emergency notification system. This system has the ability to deliver messages to a live person or an answering machine within a targeted area or the entire county quickly.  Click here for more information.
